1990 "Varsity team defeats John Jay (28-21) in the opening game, on our field, for the first time in, I believe, twenty-one years. Defeated Kennedy (21-6), winning the Supervisor's Trophy. Finished the regular season at 8-1, sharing the league title, and made the schools first bowl appearance in, I believe, a decade." - James Frank 1975 "Through the mid 1970's, the old Upper Westchester / Putnam League was still in place, Somers competed with many of the adjoining school districts that comprised this league (Mahopac, Carmel, Brewster, John Jay, JFK & Henry Hudson). The archrival for Somers at the time was Mahopac High School. In the 1975 season, Mahopac was undefeated, and Somers played them in the last game of the season, as befitted the rivalry. They had grown to be a much bigger school due to enrollment, and this was the last year Somers would play them before realignment. It was a huge game for Somers. The varsity team record was 4-2-1 going in, and Somers the consensus underdog. |
